Cover Exclusions
The policy doesn’t cover everything, so make sure you understand what it excludes as well as what it covers. What the policy doesn’t cover:
- Non-urgent and elective treatment
- Pre-existing conditions not accepted
- Routine check-ups and GP visits
If pre-existing conditions lead to specific exclusions, Accuro/Unimed will document them in your policy certificate.
How to Apply
Application are made after Immigration NZ give a visa approval in principle. To apply you will also need to provide the results from the medical carried out for the visa and a completed application. Underwriting will assess individual risk.
This can take up tp 5 working days to process so don't leave it to the last minute. There are only 3 months from the approval in principal to submit evidence of health insurance.
Pre-Existing Conditions and Eligibility
Serious conditions such as terminal illness, oxygen dependence, previous organ transplant typically make applicants ineligible for ParentStay. Other conditions such as diabetes may result in an exclusion, which will mean no cover for that condition. Accuro/Unimed will not offer cover for many chronic conditions although Orbit/nib may consider cover, potentially for a fee. Find out more here.
